[thumb:491:l]Yesterday, all of us went to The Chicago Storm game at the UIC pavilion (Trenton, Ariana, Jarett, Nicholas, Aaron, Aunti Denise, and Grammie Richards or Mimi)!! Jeannie Illievski (our good friend and finacial advisor) along with Dr. Sylvia Vicente (Trenton’s pediatrician) talked with the teams owners about doing something special for Trenton. Let me tell you – it was FANTASTIC!!! Trenton was introduced after the National Anthem and then kicked the first ball out to the Chicago Storm’s Head Coach Frank Klopas. Then the team began to play a GREAT soccer match – of course The Storm won the game against the St. Louis Steamers (5 to 3)!!
[thumb:486:l]During half-time, Trenton was asked to try to kick a goal past The Storm’s Lead Goalie #24 Danny Waltman…..Trenton got ready and at the count of 3 he kicked that soccer ball past Danny – right through his legs (you couldn’t even tell that Danny gave Trenton lots of room)!!! [thumb:475:r]Striker (The Storm’s Team Mascot) picked up Trenton to his shoulders and ran him around the field while the crowd cheered!! It was such a special moment-Trenton smiled so big-he was a hero!!! [thumb:489:l]Danny took off his signed goalie gloves and gave them to Trenton before we left the field. Trenton also received a signed Jersey and soccor ball from all of The Storm players!! Trenton and his cousins held their hands out to slap The Storm players hands as they left the field with a WIN!! [thumb:487:r]We all had such a GREAT time – and Trenton loved all the attention. Thank you SO MUCH to Jeannie, Dr. Vicente, The Storm Owners – Coaches – and Players….This night meant so much to Trenton and to us!!!![thumb:484:l]
On another note, since January 1st, Trenton has been experiencing some symtoms: Slurry speech, headaches, trouble keeping his balance, and problems walking. His left leg seems to be turning inward and trips him up sometimes – he tries to compensate by doing a gallop with his right leg forward. Today, Dr. Rubin said this could be inflammation around the tumor, tumor growth, or radiation necrosis. Actually all of them could be bad in their own different way….steroids could help lessen the symptoms of all three, but there is a cost also when choosing to use steroids. The Decadron can make him irritable, tired, cause an upset stomach, and excessive hunger. The Decadron does not make the tumor stop growing, it only helps keep the inflammation down. Necrosis could mean that the tumor is dieing off in some areas- but the problem with this is that if it happens too quickly, damage could be done to the nerves as the tumor breaks away, and then there is a possibility of a “bleed” when this happens. However, if the tumor dies slowly, it may cause neurological problems, but these can be treated with OT and PT regimines. Over time, the problems could decrease. We are hoping this is the case….
We have decided to wait another week and watch Trenton to see if any additional problems present themselves. Trenton was suppose to begin his 6th round of chemo on Wednesday, but his platlet count went down to 66 which prevents him from beginning this round of chemo – so we have to see Dr. Rubin again on Monday, January 16 for another blood test. If the counts are good, then we will start his 6th round at that time.
Clint and I – our hearts feel so heavy right now. What choice is the best choice? Should we start the Decadron now? Should we wait until after his Make A Wish Trip? We are still praying over what our decision will be….and hoping that Trenton will not show any further symptoms. Please pray for us and our family as we enter into this tough time…
We have added lots of pictures to the gallery…check them out….
Sharing Hope, Faith, and Love,
